“Serving in the in the Army and now the Guard has been an incredible honor, and I would never put the campaign before my fellow soldiers,” Rose said in a statement. “In fact, the problem with Congress today is that politicians are putting their re-elections ahead of our country, and that’s not who I am.”

"Staten Islanders and South Brooklynites deserve to know that when their representatives are casting a vote, they are putting the district first, not their donors," Rose said. "Today, I'm not just saying I won't be bought off, I'm putting action behind it."

The decision by House Republicans to file articles of impeachment against Rod Rosenstein sends a dangerous message that they expect the DOJ to prioritize a partisan agenda over the fair and impartial pursuit of justice. Dan Donovan should forcefully denounce this effort to politicize our justice system and undermine the Mueller investigation. I’ve proven several times that I’ll challenge members of my party when they’re wrong. Let’s see Dan prove he has the courage to do the same."

"Staten Island is tired of being the city's forgotten borough," Rose, a St. George resident who recently worked as chief of staff at a nonprofit healthcare clinic, wrote in the letter. "At this moment Cromwell Center remains just a dream, special needs students have no school, our traffic problems remain unresolved, and there are kids waitlisted to get help for their drug addiction. All of these are issues the Mayor can take action on - and it's what he should spend his time solving."

Staten Island is tired of being the forgotten borough. At this moment, the Cromwell Center remains just a dream, special needs students have no school, our traffic problems remain unresolved, and there are kids waitlisted to get help for their drug addiction. "At a moment where members of both parties are rightfully calling out the president's actions yesterday, Congressman Dan Donovan cannot muster up the courage to challenge the president when he defended a hostile foreign power instead of standing up for America and the people who risk their lives to keep us safe," said Rose.

"Instead of putting America first, today the President placed blame on our great nation. There is no question that Russia launched an attack on our Democracy in the 2016 Presidential election. Today's press conference was a moment to confront Vladimir Putin with the united resolve of the American people and our allies, but instead, President Trump equated our actions with those of an autocrat and denigrated the men and women who work to keep our country safe."

Rose said that his support shows a need for a change in congressional representation on Staten Island. "To say I am proud would be an understatement. I am overwhelmed by the support this campaign has received over the last month. Without taking a cent from corporate PACs, we have shown that Staten Island and South Brooklyn are tired of having a spineless representative who doesn't show up for us in D.C. or at home," said Rose.

Airing on Friday night, the seven-minute bit introduces Bootsie, the "uninformed" Colbert reporter -- a producer's mother from Long Island -- and places her at a fundraiser for Rose hosted in a private home on Staten Island.

"This morning, posted on social media and different news sites was a video of a woman wearing a hijab being verbally harassed by a New Yorker named Ashley. I and so many other veterans fought for rights Ashley claims this woman doesn't have. We defended the values of equality and tolerance that she clearly has no respect for. These actions do not represent Staten Island, Brooklyn or New York City.
